about

This Friday, rapper, singer, and producer, Breezy, celebrates the release of their new single, “Queer POC.” The track begins with a thumping kick drum, the engine powering the vehicle into which the song invites us. It drops into a house-style piano chord progression and the first vocals are “Calling all my, This is for my…Queer POC.” The song is a call to action, a call of recognition of an often marginalized intersection of people.

Present in Breezy’s past projects Tragic Mulatto EP ‘18 and MuLATTO MADness ‘19 are expressions of anger, depression, and frustration around race and gender. In “Queer POC,” none of those emotions are present. It’s pure joy. It’s an acknowledgement of the beauty and the hardship that come with being a Black/Indigenous/Person of Color and also with being queer. Influenced by 90s house and the voguing/ballroom scene originating in New York City in the 80s, this is a 2020’s celebration anthem of the expansive queerness that permeates the globe.

“Queer POC” marks Breezy’s first release since their debut album Schwarzfahren ‘21. After two successful summer tours throughout Germany in ‘21 and ‘22, Breezy is kicking off the Brown Panther Tour with LA-based rapper Groovyie next month on January 12th at the Elbo Room Jack London in Oakland, CA.

Quote from Breezy: “I’m releasing my new song “Queer POC” on December 23rd because it takes that holiday emptiness, rejection, and insecurity by the hand, crushes it down into glitter, and blows the glitter into the air, creating a shimmering illusion of wonder.”

lyrics

Oooh woahooohhh oohhh yeahhh
Mmmm mmmm
Callin all my
This is for my
Queer POC

Have you been lonely? Can’t find no one like you?
I know exactly whatchu goin thru
Don’t you forget Queer POC, we everywhere
Sometimes we hide our light, but we all know it’s there
Talkin to my Queer POC even though it feels hard to be
The haters they be lovin us and scared of what it means
So keep doin yo thing, wear your colors jewelry
Bigger better hotter wetter never quit dancing

Talkin to my Queer POC I need ya to stay with me
There's a whole lot more you and me we gotta see
No matter what you're goin through like the ones who came before you
You got to find community, got to value you and me

They'll shut ya down, they'll spin ya round, they'll have you all confused
All you gotta know is that you cannot be abused
Always remember that the shots taken at you
Are bullet holes right in the heart of the one who can't be true
You got to fight for your joy, you got to light up that room
Breathe and laugh and have a blast no matter what you goin thru
You Queer POC, you part of ancient herstory
Within you lies the hope of the whole society c'mon

Queer POC I need ya to stay with me
There's a whole lot more you and me we gotta see
No matter what you're goin through like the ones who came before you
You got to find community, got to value you and me
Let's band together and rise up so when they comin to size up
We comfortable in our own skin, heaven knows the pain we been in
Let it all go, havin us a show
Time is now, wearin our crown
Watch our stars explode

So reach inside your soul for the shit that make you different
That's that shit ya hold onto the times they just won't listen
You the one who's seeing clear, they afraid when you don't fear
So live your life you got the right all that old shit is in the rear
You Queer POC, you part of ancient herstory
Within you lies the hope of the whole society
You got to fight for your joy, you got to light up that room
Breathe and laugh and have a blast no matter what you goin thru

Queer POC I need ya to stay with me
There's a whole lot more you and me we gotta see
No matter what you're goin through like the ones who came before you
You got to find community, got to value you and me
Let's band together and rise up so when they comin to size up
We comfortable in our own skin, heaven knows the pain we been in
Let it all go, havin us a show
Time is now, wearin our crown

about

Breezy Bay Point, California

If Audre Lorde was a rapper, Breezy would be the embodiment because their hip hop takes on topics like racial identity, gender politics, and queerness. Breezy represents the fluidity in the gray area between “man” and “woman” or “Black” and “white.”
